Keeping Your Dog Cool During the Summer Months

Summer can be a wonderful time for long walks, outdoor adventures, and celebrations—but warmer weather can be tough on our dogs. Because dogs can’t regulate their body temperature the same way we do, it’s important to take a few extra steps to keep them safe and comfortable during hot months.

Hydration is key.

Always make sure your dog has access to fresh, cool water, especially when spending time outdoors. Portable water bowls are great for outings and help prevent overheating.

Provide plenty of shade and rest breaks.

Whether you’re at home, on a walk, or attending an event, your dog should always have a shaded place to relax. Regular rest breaks allow them to cool down and avoid becoming overwhelmed by the heat.

Avoid the hottest parts of the day.

Early mornings and evenings are the safest times for walks and outdoor activities. Hot pavement can burn paws quickly, so if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their feet.

Use cooling tools when needed.

Cooling mats, damp towels, and light misting can help lower your dog’s body temperature. Some dogs also enjoy frozen treats or ice cubes as a refreshing reward.

Keeping your dog cool in summer is all about planning ahead and paying attention to their comfort. A calm, cool pup is a happy pup—and that means more time enjoying the season together.
